Right vs. Wrong
Murder and Rape
Is Murder wrong because God commands it to be or because human nature? Is rape wrong because ethically and lawfully written and told to be wrong or because God commands it to be wrong or because it causes pain?
Recently, in one of my courses these questions have caused major confusion. Is everything we live by fed by us by the government or religion? When was religion put in place to begin with to tell us how to think what right and wrong is?
Plato and Socrates are the source of this discussion. My professor then went into how we live and do certain things. Who said right and wrong and what makes something right and wrong and so forth. Everyone who believes in God will obviously say a Higher Being a Creator a God. Whether Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, or Jewish you still believe in God. SO, then my professor began breaking this all down saying okay but who is God? IstagfurAllah.. just out of sake of argument he was trying to get us to think. Because the only way we live a certain way is because we follow a religion and were taught from a young age what to do and if we did something wrong we would get a negative reaction. If we did something right we would get positive feedback. God tells us murder is wrong. Some people don’t believe in God however so there is also that to factor in. Even if they are atheistic they still I’m sure have some sort of basis of right and wrong. In the Ten Commandments, in the 5 pillars in Islam, in the Torah in the Quran in the Bible in any religion; Murder is wrong, right? What about war. War is wrong right? Killing innocent individuals is wrong, right? So what makes it right? Murder is Murder and just for the sake of the betterment of a country it’s still wrong.
Anyways, I’m sitting in class trying to somehow figure out how I’m going to word this in a future essay without getting emotionally tied into this because religion is everything to me. All I do is base everything off of Islam and it’s hard being told we need to put our faith aside. That our opinion must solely be connected to ethics for once.
Murder is wrong and rape is wrong—it causes pain shame death worry everything bad in this world. The people who commit these crimes have no right mind. They may be mentally ill and just probably didn’t have religion all their life to tell them what is right and wrong. Religion explains everything in full. EVERYTHING. From birth to death all is laid out for us just there. Not everyone follows a book of life. These people tend to be the ones without a family, no basis or future, or just one day woke up and really had a change of perspective. One person might have bullied them and they never got over it and decided I’m going to kill you because you caused pain and anger in me and that’s what I’m doing. These people are alive and out there in this world. We hear about it all the time on the news. Rape on the other hand is different because a man or woman knows what they are doing. Completely tearing a person apart sexually for pleasure is just disgusting. I don’t understand how a man can do that to a woman how sick do you have to be to just commit a sinful and heinous crime? Rape happens very often all over the Middle East. In countries that follow a religion it’s incorporated in the government but yet men somehow get away with it. Women will be dressed publicly covered from head to toe and yet they get raped. So no men, women do not dress to attract you and the women who wear Niqab obviously covered fully didn’t attract you. That’s a whole other topic…
In conclusion rape and murder is wrong because it causes pain to someone. Pain; an emotion felt and this is essential. We know it’s wrong because how it makes us feel. So yes, emotions have to tie into this and religion is the essence to know this is wrong. Knowing me I’ll word press this again sometime after my class next week.
